The motto of the Ngee Ann Wichita Venture Unit has been expanded since the last time I shared it with everyone in our AGM earlier this year. This is to better reflect our vision and purpose for the rejuvenated Venture Unit.
The central theme of being a Venture remains the same: CHALLENGE. Initially adopted from the Australian Ventures, the motto calls for all members in the Venture Crew to push themselves - physically, mentally and spiritually. As they reach a stage of life where boys become men, Ventures are expected to CHALLENGE ABOVE themselves by pulling themselves out of their comfort zones, to explore other fields and grow into responsible and mature adults.
However, we would also hope for our Ventures to CHALLENGE BEYOND themselves: we want the Ventures to reach out to others as well. Venturing is not only an individual process of self-discovery, but a Movement that adopts the ideals of the Scouting Movement and pursue it further as well. As much as possible, we hope our Ventures will develop into thoughtful gentlemen who will reach out to understand and help the community and the world around them.
As a culmination of these self-challenges, in Ngee Ann, we want our Ventures to be able to CHALLENGE AS ONE. At the very least this means being able to work together as a team, but we believe the whole Venture crew will be able to become a band of brothers at the end of the day. We hope for the Venture Crew and EXCO to be united in weal and woe, and forged with a higher sense of purpose.
And therefore, may I present to everyone the Ngee Ann Wichita Ventures' Motto:
